Baba on "Writing great vocal harmonies"
A Very Great Aproach in assembling and organizing the technique for vocal harmony. Its systematic and clean and stepwise approach.... but a good idea of basic theory is needed rather then a bit of theory as mentioned LOL I think so.... and SIR I aspect U to come up with such good articles... on popular music...and they should be a complete like this one....not just tips and trick bussiness .... LOL... wish u great composing....Baba
Mark Demma on "Theory of drum programming"
You know right after I wrote this question, that is exactly what I started experimenting with, and I did find that tuning my kick drum to the root of the key of my track made a big differance. I do sort of a breakbeat trance thing and it helped the overall sound tremendously, especially with the synth blazing full on. I'm glad to see you agree with this method of tuning... it definately sounds better to me, and I guess thats what matters. Thanks... and nice chatting with you.

Alan D Moore on "Theory of drum programming"
Thanks mark; I generally shy away from using drums that have a strong pitch to them, but if I'm using a kick with a lot of tone I'll usually pitch it to the root of the key (D, in the example you mentioned). I wouldn't recommend re-pitching it throughout the song as it will create an uneven low-end. I don't really have a theory for pitching the other instruments, I just go by ear when picking out samples. Especially when going for a realistic sound, the less you mess with your original samples the better.

Nice article... thanks for publishing it (a very deserved .75 has been donated). I was curious if you have a system for tuning drum machine kits to ensure all the insturments sound harmonious together, and more imortantly sound harmonious with the melody of your tune. For instance what note would you tune a bass drum for if your overall tune was in a given key, say d minor? and then what would you tune the remaining snare and hh ect to in relation to the kick... A rule of thumb for this still eludes me, if you know one I'd love to hear it.
